Climate Change

The Copenhagen summit is upon us and Climate Change is again at the top of the agenda.  We're being bombarded with propaganda, the latest being that this is the warmest decade on record.  Government officials are queuing up to let it be known that anyone who has any reservations or a differing point of view about the fact the world is warming up are "flat earthers" and "deniers".  The deniers tag is abhorrent with it's deliberate connotations with the holocaust.

The emails from the CRU suggesting that there's been deliberate omissions in data have been given little credence.  Our State Broadcaster has announced the "science is settled" and has abandoned it's Charter to become a propaganda mouthpiece for the "warmists".

Maybe the world is hotting up.  Maybe it's not.  I don't know.  Because I've never been given the evidence to make up my own mind.  All I've seen and read is biased nonsense from both sides.  No real raw evidence.  Just Polar Bears on shrinking icebergs or parts of emails telling people to bury evidence that doesn't fit the agenda.  The powers that be and scientists whose livelihoods depend on their being global warming have told us they have the evidence to hand and that's that.

If they can give me satisfactory answers to the following questions, I will take the inevitable crushing taxes that are coming my way in the name of 'saving the planet' with a stiff upper lip as I will then know I'm doing it to make sure my sons live in a sustainable world:

What has happened over the past 35 years which has changed the experts minds from predicting an impending ice age to rampant global warming? Something catastrophic must have occurred for such a sea change in their mindset.

How do you explain the warmth spikes over the centuries, including a time when you could grow grapes as far north as York, when there were no cars etc to increase the heat?

How is the current cooling of temperature within Antarctica explained?

Explain this and have a truly independent research centre, which does not have to work to a Government Agenda to receive its grants and I'll be satisfied.  Some of us want data and answers.  We are not all brain deads who will do as we are told just because Nanny tells us it's for our own good.

Music tonight from a classic Scottish band from the late 80s - Hipsway with Tinder - a slice of laid back pop.  The whole album (eponymously named) is outstanding, no bad tracks and well worth a listen.

  1. Macbeth, a wise sage science told me that only in the Ice Age of the last 2 million have vines retreated from Britain during the glacial maxima, returning during warmer interglacials, such as the present one. Regarding wine , the approach of global warming is appealing! By 2080, we will be able to buy Chardonnay-graped wines (grown at 15C average season temp) from most of Northumberland and the Borders ; buy Merlot-graped wines from the Midlands (grown at 17C) ..imagine Dave Hill Wines (Slade) ; and we will be able to buy Scottish wines previously grown as Muller-Thurgau grapes on the hillsides of Germany. Bring it on ! 15C average temp in Aberdeenshire instead of around 11C in summer. Sadly we wont be around to see it unless we are cyrogenically frozen. If we were, then in 100 years time we would be enjoying our wines and talking about the next interglacial period , this time a cooling one. Yes I have too much time on my hands.

  2. Macbeth, we should forget about CO2 emissions as one of the greatest myths never mythed before is that in China there are thousands of abandoned coal mines whose seams are on fire and will continue burning uncontrollably for the next 20 years. These coal mines are emitting CO2 on a scale comparable to the yearly emissions of the United States !!! True story from a learned Danish scientist I met recently who sits on various UN bodies. It's not just in China but Russia also.

  3. Macbeth, the politicians should take lessons from Albert Einstein and Buggles. Forget all about data and targets , its really all about E=mc2 , (you better watch out you better take care..etc) , in that... a huge amount of energy can be released from a small collision of atoms. i.e. Fusion energy as seen in the Sun (not the rag). Within 50 years we will have zero-emission energy production from fusion reactors that turn hydrogen into helium. The only problem to solve is containing a 15 million C process as there is no material known to man that can survive such temperatures. Not to fear however, scientists are working on containment by magnetic fields, currently under trial in a complex in rural France. So burn all the coal , get warmer in Aberdeenshire and by then we will all be zero-emitters globally, driving hydrogen-powered cars during the week and taking the hobby car (a JAG preferably ) out of the garage at weekends for a countryside spin around Lumphanan.

  4. Only independent retired scientists are worth listening to - all the others are paid to have a particular opinion. By the way I'm scared of Gongzhufen. Last thing - I hope you saw Frankie Boyle on Buzzcocks tonight - he was excellent.
